The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry has continued to work diligently to meet the needs of the clients in our communities.  The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges to this volunteer organization including the need to provide sufficient food in a safe manner. The food pantry has implemented a new system to maintain safety for both the clients and the volunteers.

In March, the food pantry served 87 individuals representing 56 families. In April, 104 individuals representing 51 families were assisted. Items that are needed at the food pantry include: brownie mixes, ramen noodles, flour, Betty Crocker helpers (especially chicken), and toilet paper. The board appreciates the donations of food items and monetary gifts given by individuals and the area churches. The many volunteers that have helped open the food pantry have been so appreciated as well. The food pantry’s buyer, Judy Henson, has worked diligently to keep food on the pantry shelves.

Tarkio First Baptist Church will be responsible for opening the food pantry in May and the Fairfax Presbyterian Church will open the food pantry in June. It is open Tuesdays and Thursdays on the third and fourth weeks of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  The food pantry is also open the third Tuesday of each month in the evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19, the May Food Pantry Board meeting was not held. The next board meeting will be July 14 at 9:30 a.m. The food pantry is located at 315 Main Street in Tarkio.
