July 13, 1945

• Homer Browning has purchased the residence property of Wilferd Graves in east Fairfax and he and Mrs. Browning will move to the place to make their home. The place is now occupied by the C.H. Garrison family. Mrs. Lucille Hoedl has purchased the residence property of Cliff Davis in northeast Fairfax, known as the Frank McNulty property.

• Cpl. Nelson Wright arrived home Wednesday, after serving several months with the army in Europe. His unit was one of the first to cross the Rhine and participated in many of the major engagements in the late days of the war. He will spend 30 days with his wife and then report for reassignment.

July 16, 1970

• Although rains of one to two inches fell over much of the parched Midwest Tuesday night, the Fairfax area only received a small shower, not nearly enough to relieve effects of the prolonged dry spell. Temperatures soared to 100 Tuesday, but the front brought cooler temperatures Wednesday.

• Over 100 persons signed the guest register at the Fairfax Garden Club Flower Show held Tuesday at the Methodist Church. A tie for sweepstake honors went to Miss Zeta McNeil and Mrs. Essie Erwin of Rock Port. Each held the same number of blue ribbons in different divisions.

July 13, 1995

• A retirement ceremony was held June 19 at the Seabee Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, for Captain John E. Jones. A former Fairfax resident, his parents are Mrs. Alice McCartney and the late Wayne Jones. A graduate of Fairfax High School and the University of Missouri, Captain Jones was commissioned an Ensign in 1969.

• A new building is going up in northwest Fairfax. The new business will be a quick shop type. It is where the old Fairfax Laundry was located, or to those who remember back farther, where Zeke Daily had his gas station.

• James Howard Thompson was honored for 20 years of service by the MFA Agri Service Monday night at the board meeting.
