The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met July 15, 2020, and was called to order by President Garrett Wood at 7:02 p.m. Board members attending were: Jamie Barnett, Ann Schlueter, Sam Hannah, Josh Wright, and Chris Yates. Heather Olson joined the meeting at 7:03 p.m. Others in attendance were Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Elementary Principal Kari Taylor, and board secretary Lanette Hogue.
The board voted to approve the amended agenda and consent agenda, as well as district obligations.
Rachel Meyer gave a report on the Tarkio Activity Center (TAC). Everyone is following protocol, signing in and out and cleaning the equipment. Rachel reported that they have held volleyball and basketball camps at the TAC.
Superintendent Coleman gave a financial report and reported that the school ended 2020-21 $460,000 in the black. A meeting was held with Martin Mechanical regarding the excessive repairs on the HVAC System at the high school. New championship banners were ordered for the TAC.
Discussion was held on steps the school is taking to prepare for the 2020-21 school year. The staff had meetings on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, to start working on implementation plans for the school year. Plans should be finalized by August 1, 2020.
The board voted to approve the following curriculums: Math – 6th, 7th, 8th, Algebra 1, Algebra II & Geometry; Social Studies 6th, 7th, 8th, American History, World History & Government; Agriculture Education – Exploring Agriculture, Ag Science I, Ag Science II & Ag Construction; Business Education – Accounting I, Accounting II, Multimedia & Personal Finance; Health & PE – 7th PE, 8th PE, JH Girls’ Health, JH Boys’ Health, 9-12 PE & 9-12 Health; Communication Arts – 6th, 7th, 8th, English I, English II, English III & English IV; Science – 6th, 7th, 8th, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science & Intro to Chem/Earth Science; Family and Consumer Science – 8th Grade, Child Development, Nutrition and Wellness, Resource Management & Digital Safety; Music and Band – 6th Grade Band and Choir, JH Band, JH Choir, HS Choir, Music Appreciation and HS Guitar; Guidance – 6th-8th Academic Development, 6th-8th Career Development, 6th-8th Personal/Social Development, 9th-12th Academic Development, 9th-12th Career Development, and 9th-12th Personal/Social Development; and Elementary: Math – K-5, STEM, Guidance, Library, and PE.
Heather Olson moved and Ann Schlueter seconded to adopt the Conflict of Interest Policy 0342. The motion carried 7-0. The board also voted to approve the Tarkio Tech Agreement as presented, as well as the ACES Contract as presented. The elementary and high school handbooks as presented were approved.
The board set the tax rate hearing for August 19, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.
The board approved Kari Taylor as the Homeless Coordinator.
Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to remove Jeff Meyer from all Tarkio R-I bank accounts and add Garrett Wood and Marla Swaby to all Tarkio R-I bank accounts. The motion carried 7-0.
Early graduation for a student was approved.
The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, Record and vote at 8:55 p.m. The closed session was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. The regular meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
