Paul Richard Ohrt, son of John Wilhelm and Anna Louise (Schierkolk) Ohrt, was born on November 30, 1934, in Langdon, Missouri. Paul attended High Creek School in Watson and Rock Port High School, graduating in 1952. In 1954, Paul entered the United States Army and served his country in Fort Polk, Louisiana.

On January 15, 1956, Paul was united in marriage to Mary Ann Nelson at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri. Together, they raised three children: Paula, Jeannie, and Larry.

During his life, Paul wore many hats. With his dad, his brother John Henry, and his son, Paul farmed in Atchison County for more than fifty years. He loved to work with his hands, and was never content to be idle. A perpetual tinkerer, he could often be found working in his shop on one project or another. When not working, Paul enjoyed fishing, playing softball and volleyball, and golfing. He also volunteered his time and energy with the annual Tarkio Fly-In and the church mobility cart PET project. Paul was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and knew that his salvation rested in Christ alone. He reflected Christ’s love through tireless service to others in his family and community. He was always ready to lend a hand, a laugh and a smile, or a peppermint.

Paul passed away Monday, August 24, 2020, at Bryan Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 85. Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeannie Wright; siblings, John Henry and his wife Donna Ohrt, Ruth and her husband Ron Goodrich; brothers-in-law, Ray Tiemeyer and Ray Villarreal. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Ohrt; children, Paula (Weldon) Hoppe and Larry (Kerri) Ohrt; son-in-law, Mike Wright; grandchildren, James (Rachel) Hoppe, Anna Hoppe, Ian Hoppe, Michael Paul Ohrt, Baleigh (Tyler) Heits, and Madison Ohrt; great-grandchildren, Ember, Cora, Adeline, Judah Hoppe, and Turner Heits; sisters, Alma Tiemeyer and Ann (Bob) Crabtree; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Friday, August 28, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro. Interment was held at St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro. Rev. Franz J. Brandenburg officiated. Military Rites were under the auspices of Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio, Missouri.
