• H. Burte Gomel has purchased from Clyde Rinehart the residence property in northeast Fairfax, known as the Bigley property. Mr. Gomel has purchased the property for a home and will move to it from Coin, Iowa, about the first of the year.
• Thirty-two Atchison County veterans of foreign wars were present at the meeting called in Tarkio on Monday night for the purpose of organizing a county-wide post. Officers of the post were elected as follows: president, C.E. McAdams, Tarkio; senior vice chairman, Louis Bell, Fairfax; junior vice chairman, James B. Low, Tarkio; quartermaster, Clarence Poe, Tarkio; chaplain, Frank Bywaters, Tarkio; and trustees, Grover Farley, Carl Thomas, and Frank C. Fay. Other officers are to be appointed by the president. The matter of naming the post was postponed until another meeting that will be held at the Clarence Poe jewelry store in Tarkio Friday night of this week.
October 1, 1970
• Mrs. Waldo Thomson was installed as president of the Atchison County Cancer Society at a dinner meeting Tuesday evening at the Fairfax United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. James Burg of Rock Port was named vice president and crusade chairman. The 1970 drive netted $3,868 which put Atchison County on top for the state.
• Vicki O’Riley is a recent winner in the 4th District Poppy Day poster contest conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary. Vicki won a cash award for her entry.

• The Fairfax Country Store opened for business last week. Sue Patterson of Maitland, Missouri, and her son, Dan Chestnut, presently living in Nevada, are the owners. The store has Texaco gas and the pumps are self-serve. In the inside they have two tables with chairs so you can enjoy your coffee and snacks. They have normal convenience store foods for sale, as well as pizza and sandwiches that can be warmed up in the microwave, as well as beer and liquor.
• Last Wednesday afternoon, September 20, Fairfax received a visit from the state Community Betterment judges. They made their on-sight visit to town and asked questions about the activities. The judges presented Polly McConnell, Fairfax Community Betterment Chairman, with a certificate of participation for Fairfax, as well as presenting Polly with the “Outstanding Leadership Award.”
