Dear Editor:

In 2018, Missouri voters signed a petition calling for an Amendment to the state Constitution that would change politics in Missouri forever. The ballot initiative that was created became known as Clean Missouri Amendment One.

Clean Missouri made Missouri voting districts straight forward, understandable, and sensible. It removed the influence of big money power by limiting the value of contributions and gifts so that Missouri state office holders could accept not much more than a free cup of coffee. Clean Missouri was supported by people like State Senator Rob Schaaf of St. Joseph and former US Senator John Danforth. In the 2018 general election Missouri voters like you and I approved Clean Missouri this reform by an overwhelming majority.

Now some politicians and big donors in Jefferson City want to overturn the citizen majority that put Clean Missouri on the ballot and into our Constitution.

Amendment 3 on this year’s November ballot would repeal Clean Missouri and make Missouri politics dirty again. But it didn’t get there by petition from Missouri voters. It got there thanks to the Missouri General Assembly and some of the same people who benefit from free plane rides, trips to nice places, and money given to them by wealthy donors. Dirty Missouri Amendment 3 would make sure our voting districts keep dividing cities, counties, and townships into crooked jigsaw puzzle pieces instead of blocks of informed voters united with their own best interests at heart.

On November 3rd, vote no on Amendment 3 and keep Missouri clean.

Sincerely,

Rick Oswald, Rock Port
