It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s a wolf, Josh Smith, hurdling over a downed Rock Port opponent in the East Atchison varsity 52-6, third quarter win.

On Friday night, September 25, Rock Port traveled the eight miles to Tarkio, Missouri, to take on the East Atchison Wolves.

From the flip of the coin to the final touchdown it was EA’s night. Winning the coin toss, the Wolves elected to receive. EA would move the ball to mid-field before turning it over on downs. Rock Port would take over on their own 37 yard line. The Jays moved the ball down to the 25 yard line. Quarterback Micah Making attempted a pass to Trey Peshek when defensive back Jarrett Spinnato stepped in front and picked it off. Spinnato would run it back to the 19 yard line. The Jays’ defense came up big, stopping the Wolves on the 17 yard line and forcing a turn-over on downs. Three plays later Jarrett Spinnato would get his second interception on the night. The Wolves would take over on their own 36 yard line.

There were big runs by Kaylin Merriweather, Ian Hedlund, and Josh Smith. From the nine yard line Josh Smith would put the first points on the board with a quarterback keeper. Josh would also get the two-point conversion. The Wolves would hold the Jays once again and would take the next possession down the field where senior Ian Hedlund would take a five yard run in for six. Smith’s two-point  conversion was good, making the score 16-0 EA.

When the Blue Jays would have success it would be negated by penalties. The Blue Jays finally got on the board in the third quarter when defensive end Micah Makings picked off a quick out pass and took it back for six. The Wolves would go on to win 52-6.

Rock Port will be playing King City/Union Star at home on Friday night and East Atchison will be traveling to Mound City.
