• The Crescent Theatre will reopen October 23 with new Royal Soundmaster equipment. This sound equipment is built by the Ballantyne company of Omaha. It is installed in a fire proof projection room and has the latest type of horn and amplifier. The theatre has been completely redocrated in blue and buff. It has been repapered and painted and the projection room has a metal floor.
• Orville Bacon, former resident of Fairfax, whose parents conducted the old Cottage Hotel, located north of the present Sly Hardware Store, was an overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McMahon Monday. Mr. Bacon grew up in Fairfax, but this was his first visit in 25 years. He now lives in Chicago and is with the Internal Revenue Department.
October 22, 1970
• Officers of the local Future Farmers of America and their advisor, J. Hayden Pyeatt, attended the National FFA Convention in Kansas City Wednesday, October 14. The delegation heard the guest speaker, Art Linkletter, speak of drug abuse. Officers attending were Gary Windhorst, Jay Smith, Steve Irvine, Tim Smith, John Ball, and Fred Wennihan. On Saturday, 38 FFA members, as well as Advisor Pyeatt and chaperones, attended the first day of the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City and then spent the night at the Phillips Hotel.
• The Fairfax Bulldogs climaxed a day full of homecoming activities by downing the South Holt Knights 19-6. Trudy Smith was crowned Homecoming Queen and Jay Smith was crowned King.

• There is a newly organized Brownie Scout Troop 60 in Fairfax. There are 15 girls in the troop.
• Sixteen Sorosis members met at the Christian Church October 16 for their meeting. Mrs. Roy (Marcia) Brewer of Plattsburg, formerly of Fairfax, gave the program. She and her husband recently visited Scotland and England and she showed several photographs taken on this trip. She also said the name of Bowness is a very prominent name in England.
