November 9, 1945
• Kitchen woodwork and furnishings were damaged and walls made black with soot at the Vernie Taylor home just before noon Monday when some varnish remover caught fire as Mrs. Taylor struck a match to light the range. She had been using the remover on the woodwork of the room and did not realize it was explosive.
• A group of boys and girls in the Prairie Flower district met recently and organized a 4-H Club, known as the Prairie Pals. The girls plan to take clothing 1 as their project and the boys livestock project.
• The missionary meeting at the Methodist Church Tuesday evening of last week was well attended, nearly 100 being present, and all churches of the town were represented. Miss Letah Doyle, missionary to India, told about some of the fine architecture of India, especially the tomb built by Emperor Taj Mahal, for a burial place for his favorite wife; about the different religions; the family life; and work of the missionaries and the native converts. A short musical program preceded the talk.
November 12, 1970
• Deanna Bolton was elected the first football homecoming queen of Missouri Western College of St. Joseph. It was announced after a student body vote Friday night, October 30, at a bonfire rally at the college. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Bolton and Barbara, Mrs. Lynn Musch, Mrs. Fae Smith, and Mrs. Wayne Whitford and Linda attended the homecoming activities.
• In a battle of possession of second place in the Highway 275 Conference the Fairfax Bulldogs earned this position by downing the Tarkio Indians by a 19-0 count on the Tarkio field Friday night.
November 9, 1995
• Nineteen leaders and five members from the Atchison and Holt counties attended a 4-H leadership training event last Thursday night, October 26, at the Fairfax School. After supper, there were training sessions and visual arts demonstrations and brain storming sessions.
• Over the Backfence by Nancy Gaines: “You know you are getting old when you walk around a puddle instead of through it.”
• The Area I Special Olympics Bowling Tournament was held October 28 at Belt Bowl in St. Joseph. Our county was well represented with five teams and one individual bowler. Bringing home gold medals were Dean Moore of Fairfax in the individual; the Rolling on Doubles team of Pam Hicks and Mary Wooten; and the Star Powers team of Owen Peters, Chris Knowles, Colton Thiesfeld, and Phil Daken.
