Candy Cane Lane is the theme of Oregon’s 31st annual Christmas Around the Square celebration Thursday, December 3, 2020. Some safety measures will be enacted. All volunteers, vendors and visitors will be required to wear masks. Fewer vendors in the T.J. Hall Building will allow them to be six feet apart. All meals will be carry-out only. If weather permits, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the courtyard at the gazebo.

The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. with vendors in the T.J. Hall Building, Adelpha cookie walk in the King & Proud Roadhouse, and the Missouri Bicentennial Quilt exhibit in the courthouse.

At 10:00 a.m., the Oregon Public Library will be open with hot chocolate and cookies and the Holt County Museum and Research Center will open for visitors. At 11:00 a.m., a carry-out lunch of spaghetti, garlic toast, salad and cookies will be available. At noon, the South Holt Carolers will perform at the T.J. Hall Building and around the square.

After school, free pop and pizza will be served at the King & Proud Roadhouse to school children courtesy of the Chamberlain family. Santa arrives at 4:00 p.m. and Sheila Barnett will be providing photos. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., surrey rides around the square sponsored by Townes Telecommunication will be available. ACE will also be providing a carry-out only pulled pork meal.    

To complete the evening, the Oregon Christian Church will host Carols and Candles at 6:30 p.m. Christmas Around the Square is coordinated by the Community Activities Committee. If you would like to get involved, contact Billie Banks.
