The Allen Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 was called to order by President Linda Payton on November 9, 2020, with six members in attendance. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Barb Hines and approved by the unit. The treasurer’s financial report was given by Treasurer Sheridan Mires.
We continue to work on our membership. It’s that time of year again to renew your memberships for 2020. See or send your renewals to Barb Hines.
The District 4 meeting for November 7 was not held in Burlington Junction, but attended by units on Zoom. A brief report was given by Linda and Sheridan.
Our turkey dinner was again a successful event, thanks to all our communities and Legion/Auxiliary members. Comments received were shared. And, if we should need to do curbside delivery another time, suggestions for a smoother service were discussed.
With the closing of US Bank in Tarkio, a decision was made and voted on by the members regarding our account with US Bank.
Due to the COVID regulations, we will not be able to personally assist the Cameron Veterans Home with gifts and gift wrapping. We will be sending a monetary donation to Cameron and to the Eisenhower Veterans Home.
Sheridan shared with us the changes happening with Girls’ State. There has been a cutback of the 100 staff and 800 girls to 650 total persons. We will look into this further.
Will County Government Day be held or not? Sheridan let us know of some possible alternatives to our normal way of holding this function. She will be checking with each school to find out if we can hold this.
We went over our list of yearly donations and voted to continue with these donations.
Our next meeting will be February 8, 2021. We will discuss Girl State delegates and County Government Day then. Members are asked to please tally your hours and dollars spent for turkey dinner, veterans you have helped, as well as other community service and children and youth activities you have been involved with, including expenses or donations. Bring them to the meeting in February. Stay well! Happy Thanksgiving! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
