December 7, 1945
• Lyle A. Rolofson has opened on Main Street the Rolofson Garage and Dodge-Plymouth agency at the location formerly occupied by the Redfern brothers. He also operates the Standard Oil station in Fairfax.
• A fire Saturday morning at the Lawson Motor Company, also known as the Chevrolet garage, resulted in several thousand dollars worth of damage to the building and equipment. It is thought that the fire, which occurred about 6:30 in the morning, started in the coal bin above the furnace. Flames in the north end of the building charred the ceiling and ruined the walls and destroyed the roof. Smoke spread to the front of the building into the office and showroom causing a great deal of damage and the intense heat caused the plate glass windows to break.
• Neighbors shucked 2,000 bushels of corn Wednesday of last week for Ed Tiemann at his farm a mile west and two miles north of Westboro. Mr. Tiemann had been unable to finish his corn shucking because of frequent attacks of Malta Fever.
December 10, 1970
• A “Happiness Is” tour of homes, sponsored by the Senior Girl Scout Troop No. 115 of Atchison County, will take place this Saturday in Tarkio. Tickets are $1 each for the following homes: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schmidt, Jr., 1201 McNary; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Enos, 1 1/2 miles north on Highway 59; Mr. Lewis Schollian and Mr. Claude Templeton, 1/2 mile north on Highway 59; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Meek, 1012 North 5th Street; and Mr. and Mrs. F. John Jones, 504 Linden Street. Guests are invited to end their tour with light refreshments at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hackett, 902 Park.
• Members of Phi Mu Delta fraternity at Tarkio College, operators of the popular teen spot, Low Rent Pizza, were hosts Sunday at a Christmas party for Head Start students and their families. All of the children visited with Santa Claus and received a candy cane.

• The Walnut Shop in Fairfax, Missouri, held an Open House on Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2, 1995. The Walnut Shop has for sale in its store, picture frames, trays, gift items, teachers’ gifts, craft items, and lots of miscellaneous.
• The town of Tarkio will be buzzing with activity throughout the day December 9. Activities will include a pancake/sausage breakfast, craft show, the “Magical Christmas” Parade, Santa Claus, Children’s Christmas Mall, Elf Commercials and Elf Auction, and Living Nativity. The Tarkio College Alumni Association and the Atchison County Historical Society are featuring the Rankin Sleigh as a window decoration at hte museum. The sleigh is on loan by Mrs. Jean Gnann, the great-great-granddaughter of David Rankin. The Historical Society will be riding in the parade on a float engineered by Harry Broermann, which features the David Rankin cultivator. This antique farming implement was invented by David Rankin and is owned by Broermann.
