February 1, 1946

• Completed and open now for the use of American Legion members are the Legion Club rooms above the First National Bank. Redecorating is complete with the walls painted ivory and the floors refinished. Available for use is a billiard table, a snooker table, and another table with a variety of games and reading material. Legionnaires and their ex-service friends may use the recreational rooms at any time during the day. In the evening, the club rooms open at seven o’clock.

• In a transaction completed last Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Coe rented their business property at the corner of Fourth and Main streets to Hyde and Vredenburg, Inc. of Lamoni, Iowa, who will open a grocery and meat store here known as the Supply Store. The building has been redecorated and remodeled with two upstairs apartments which the new company has also rented.

February 4, 1971

• Nineteen Tarkio College students, under the direction of Dr. Howard Bell, completed a course in Rehabilitation Practicum at the Hot Springs, Arkansas, Rehabilitation Center and returned to Tarkio January 23. The students spent two weeks at the Rehab Center as part of a course requirement. Each had a grant from the rehab covering room, board and training. The group raised the money to take the college bus on the trip. 

• High temperature for the week was 54 degrees recorded on the 29th and the low was two degrees recorded on the 27th, according to Lester Morton, local official weather observer. 

• There will be a one-day showing of Japanese Woodblock Prints February 10 in the Tarkio Room of Thompson Library at the college. The exhibit will cover the 18th and 20th centuries and will include portraits, landscapes, and various genre scenes.

February 1, 1996

• The Tarkio area received anywhere from seven to ten inches of snow on Friday with winds causing huge drifts. Area schools were dismissed early because of poor road conditions and at least one vehicle got stuck in the snow, this one being across from the Avalanche. 

• As of Thursday, February 1, the Tarkio Valley Agency in Tarkio has been sold to Bob and Cheryl Batschelet of Rock Port, Missouri. Tarkio Valley Agency was established in 1958 as a general insurance agency writing all lines of insurance by Carl F. Martin when he became secretary of the Colfax Farmers Mutual Insurance in the basement of the Walnut Inn Hotel in Tarkio. His wife, Betty, worked part-time in the office when the agency was established.
