• Ted Rogers, grandson of E.N. Rogers, now of Colorado but formerly of Tarkio, is pictured in the January 21 issue of Life Magazine in photographs of the Wyoming U./Long Island U. game at Madison Square Garden. The pictures show the Long Island star, Jackie Goldsmith, being guarded by Rogers, Wyoming athlete. E.N. Rogers was in the photography business in Tarkio just before A.E. Andersen began his business here.

• Mrs. H.A. Smith, Mrs. Leland White, Mrs. J.B. Shaum, and Mrs. H.D. Cunningham are in Omaha selecting furniture to be used in the ladies’ lounge at Tarkio College.

March 4, 1971

• C.L. “Chub” McAdams was named Employee of the Year at the annual Awards Banquet of Tarkio Community Betterment. Jack Davis said, “This year it goes to a person who has been employed as a printer at the Tarkio Avalanche for 40 years and has devoted himself to the job . . . Besides this he has given of himself in many other ways such as helping with Pee-Wee Baseball, serving as our community Santa, and serving as Cubmaster since 1960 and working many long hours with the youth of our community through scouting…” George W. Knepper was named Citizen of the Year. Mr. Davis said, “This man has been active in community affairs for many years and was predominate at the time our airport was founded by helping negotiate for the land, state and federal funds . . . He has been in the Chamber of Commerce for about 30 years, as well as serving as President of the Rotary Club and been active in the March of Dimes . . . He was instrumental in forming the Tarkio Pelleting Corp. and the Missouri Beef Packers, has served on the Tarkio Planning Commission, served as President of Tarkio Development Corporation, and helped bring to a reality the new Northview Manor…”

• KMTV Sports Director Dave Blackwell will be guest speaker for the annual Athletic Banquet to be held Tuesday, March 16, at Tarkio College. Since joining KMTV in 1964, Blackwell has become known as the Omaha sportscaster who doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind on sports controversies and goes far beyond the scoreboard phase to include background stories, filmed reports and interviews with nationally-known sports figures.

• Massage Therapist Kathy Davis, LMT, will be offering therapeutic massage treatments by appointment at Heartland Rec Center on the Tarkio Academy campus.

• Rod McGinty of Tarkio recently received the Tarkio College diploma he earned in 1951. The diploma was presented by Dr. Leland Crapson of Tarkio and witnessed by Dr. Glenn Bargman of Tarkio. McGinty earned his diploma May 22, 1951, but due to him attending school in Nebraska (and thus unable to attend the Tarkio College graduation ceremony) and the misplacement of the diploma, it was never awarded to him. It was recently discovered by Dr. Crapson during the moving process of the Tarkio College records.
