March 22, 1946

• Clyde Warren is assembling material for a residence which he will erect soon in the new Savage addition at the southwest edge of Rock Port. Always an ardent sports follower, Warren will be well situated as the new house will be strategically located in-so-far as the local athletic field is concerned. It will be built just south of the goal posts on the field.

• Jasper Stanford brought to the Rock Port Post Office Tuesday afternoon a government weather balloon outfit and recording instrument which he found southwest of Phelps City that morning. According to the tag attached, the outfit was released at the weather bureau in Omaha at 9 o’clock Monday night. Part of the find was returned to the Omaha office and the remainder was sent to Washington.

March 25, 1971

• The Midland College Choir will perform at the Lutheran Church in Rock Port April 1. The choir has twice toured Europe and has performed annually in churches and concert halls throughout the United States. Among the choir members is Miss Sharmyn Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester E. Thompson of St. Joseph, Missouri, former residents of Rock Port.

• The Atchison County Extension Homemaker’s Council will meet April 2 at the University Extension Center in Rock Port. Miss Lois Noellsch will present the program about her experiences in India as an IFYE.

• The Central Bridge Co. began work this week on opening up First Street as a bypass while two box culverts are being built over Boney Branch at Main Street, which will eliminate the “big dip” as people drive into Rock Port’s downtown business district.

March 21, 1996

• Pastor Tim Carey presented Elmer Davis, Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department, with a check from the Aid Association for Lutherans Branch 6400, to go towards the matching funds of the Loren Schoonover benefit.

• The Rock Port R-II Spelling Bee winners were Erica Corken, Ben Gebhards, and Beau Morgan. They will advance to the 275 Conference Spelling Bee in Pickering, Missouri, March 27, 1996.
