April 19, 1946

• J.H. Pyeatt has been offered the position of vocational agriculture instructor at Fairfax R-3. His wife has been teaching in Tarkio High School the past three years. His home is at Butler, Missouri, but he has been in the service during the war and has just recently been discharged.

• Jack Pearce’s 1941 Oldsmobile Club Sedan was stolen from its parking place just east of his home Thursday morning of last week and no trace of it has been found. Mr. Pearce drove the car home from his place of business about 11:30 Wednesday night and took the ignition key out of the car and dropped it on the floor, as was custom. It is thought that the car was taken after six o’clock, as two or three folks who come to work before that hour report having seen it parked in its regular spot.

• Phillip Henn, advisor of the Veterans Administration of Kansas City, flew a new Aeronca plane to Fairfax last Thursday afternoon and visited his sister, Mrs. Dale Schooler, and family. He landed his plane in a pasture near the Schooler home and during his visit gave the Schooler family and others rides in the plane.

April 22, 1971

• Mrs. Lorene Maris represented the local Garden Club at the state meeting of Federated Garden Clubs in St. Louis Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of last week. She accepted a purple ribbon on behalf of the local club’s achievements during the past year. She was also presented with a lifetime membership in the federation, a gift from her daughters, Mrs. Rosalie Seymour and Mrs. Janet Gottsch.

• Four Webelos and their leaders of Cub Scout Pack 73 enjoyed an outing at Charity Lake. They are learning the proper way to row a boat in earning one of their achievements. Those attending were Guy Graves, Barry Simmons, H.A. Hawkins, Paul Whittington, and leaders Gene Carder and Bill Walker.

• Someone threw away their government food commodities in the local dump, causing outrage. Included were unopened packages of dry milk, rolled oats, flour, rice, instant-mashed potatoes, corn grits, corn meal, prunes, and three big chunks of cheese.

April 18, 1996

• Grass fires called the Fairfax Fire Department out twice last week. They responded to a fire at the farm of Lorena Stevens last Tuesday afternoon and to the ditch and field fire behind the Walnut Shop and Yocum Fertilizer last Thursday evening.

• Molly Harding, a senior at Fairfax R-3, signed a letter of intent to attend Ottawa University in Kansas to play volleyball and track.
