The Northwest Missouri Sportsman’s Club held a virtual turkey check station for area hunters during youth weekend, April 10 and 11. Seven young hunters posted pictures of their turkeys on the club’s Facebook page.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows that young turkey hunters in Missouri harvested 2,771 birds over the past youth weekend.

Young hunters checked 2,712 turkeys during the 2020 spring youth weekend.

Miss Reese Herron was the first on the board this weekend with her first ever turkey, a 14 lb. jake.

Corbin Wallace harvested a gobbler over the weekend.  His turkey weighed 18 lbs. and had 1″ spurs and a 9 1/4″ beard.

Tayden Cook harvested his tom on Saturday morning. Weighing 19 1/2 lbs., it had 7/8″ spurs and a 10″ beard.

Lane Johnson harvested his first ever bird late on Saturday. His gobbler weighed 24 lbs. and had 1″ spurs and an 11″ beard.

Braden Graves harvested a nice, mature gobbler on Sunday morning. His bird weighed 24.5 lbs. and had 1 1/4″ spurs and sported 2 beards, one measuring 10″ and the other 4.5″.

Lucas Frisch harvested a nice adult gobbler Sunday. His bird weighed 25 lbs. and had 1″ spurs and a 10″ beard.

Caleb Russell harvested his big tom on Sunday.  His bird weighed 26 lbs. and had 1 1/4″ spurs and a 10 3/4″ beard.
