Atchison County Head Start, located in Rock Port, Missouri, is currently accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year.

Head Start offers a full day program from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Students are given three meals a day that are approved by the CACFP program. Transportation is provided to families in most areas.

Head Start provides a free, comprehensive high quality preschool program designed to foster healthy development for income eligible children and their families. The program focuses on School Readiness Goals which include academic and social skills.

Services include early childhood education, medical, vision, hearing, and dental screenings and follow-ups if needed.

Head Start collaborates with the public schools for children with IEP’s and disabilities.

Nutrition, social skills, and family engagement services are also provided. Families set goals and assistance is provided to help meet those goals. Some examples are utility shut-offs, getting Medicaid, extra food or even housing. Families can be part of the governing board to enhance the Head Start program.

For the child to be eligible for the 2021-2022 school year they must be three years of age before August 1, 2021.

The following documents are needed when doing the application: 2020 income taxes, W-2’s or the last 12 months of income, and verification of the child’s age (either by birth certificate, state insurance card or immunization record).
