May 10, 1946

• John Hogue has this week moved the small house which he built the past winter on the old seminary lots in northwest Rock Port to a part of the Noble lots in Nauvoo, closer downtown.

• Clyde Shineflew arrived home Saturday afternoon from more than 18 months of service in Europe with the army. He was discharged on Friday and made the trip from St. Louis by plane, Bob Graf having flown one of his airships to St. Louis to bring home the returning serviceman.

• The hybrid seed corn and seed treatment business which has been operated locally for several years by I.J. Nickerson is being incorporated and enlarged, giving Rock Port one of the largest businesses of its character in northwest Missouri. The company will be called the Old Nick Seed Company.

May 13, 1971

• The John Walter family has been chosen as this year’s State Fair Farm Family. The selection was made last week by Atchison County University of Missouri Extension Council. They will represent the county at the Missouri State Fair on Farm Family Day. Mr. and Mrs. Walter operate a farm north of Rock Port and have two children, Doug, 12, and Julie, 11.

• A promotion from First Lieutenant to Captain has been bestowed upon Ron Gayler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gayler, Rock Port. The promotion was received by Captain Gayler May 6 at Bien Hoa, Vietnam, where he is stationed with the 1st Air Cav. Div., Air Mobile. Captain Gayler is a helicopter pilot and has flown the Huey Chopper in assault missions and was in the Cambodia campaign.

• Roger Henderson, Lincoln, Nebraska, will be the new dentist in Rock Port, occupying the former Thomas building at the corner of Clay and Market streets. Henderson will graduate from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in June. He and his wife will move here and the office will be open for business July 1st.

May 9, 1996

• Props +Plus is a new business opening in Rock Port at 206 E. Hwy. 136. Gene Wood and his brother, C.L. Squires, are opening the business. The shop specialty will be rebuilding boat props.

• The Rock Port fourth-sixth graders held their annual spring musical Thursday, May 2, in the school gym. The musical was full of songs from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, including many solos. The play was wonderfully directed and choreographed by elementary music teacher Lynn Hunter.

• The Pleasant View Care facility has a new administrator. Patty Steinberg comes to Pleasant View from Boonville, Missouri. She has 13 years in long term care experience and is pleased with the staff, residents, and facility here in Rock Port.

• Rock Port’s Pleasant View Nursing Home resident Ann Jordan won the Ms. Nursing Home title for District 2 (Northwest Missouri). She will take her beauty and charm to the statewide competition to be held in August at Lake of the Ozarks.
