May 17, 1946

• Tarkio College alumni will gather with the class of 1946 for closing chapel exercises for the annual alumni banquet at Marshall Hall and for commencement at David Rankin Hall. Especially honored this year is the golden anniversary class of 1896. Honorary degrees will be awarded to Rev. S.A. Whysong of the Presbyterian Church of Fairfax, Prof. F.M. McClenanhan of Monmouth College in Illinois, and Rev. Arthur Armstrong, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg, Kansas.

• Mrs. Don Harrison and Mrs. Willis Johnson have changed the name of their shop from Tiny Toggery to Tot and Teen Style Shop.

• William Cain has purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Smith their filling station on Highway 59 and residence property adjacent in the north part of Tarkio. Kenneth Lindsay is operating the station.

May 20, 1971

• Three new teachers were employed by the Tarkio Board of Education. Mr. Rickey Holst will be the new art teacher, which will include high school and middle school classes with art supervision in elementary. Mrs. David Chapin was employed as a second grade teacher. Mrs. Mary Dupuis was employed as librarian for both the elementary and high school libraries.

• The fourth annual Flight Breakfast will be held at Gould-Peterson Field at Tarkio Sunday, May 23. Proceeds will be used to improve the airport which is used extensively by both Atchison Countians and persons coming to the county for business or pleasure.

• Commencement exercises will be held Friday night at the high school gym for the 58 members of the Tarkio R-I senior class. The address will be given by Dr. Don Petry, vice-president of Business Affairs at NWMSC, Maryville.

May 16, 1996

• A total of 1,300 pounds of food was collected by the Tarkio Post Office/Tarkio Academy Food Drive Saturday, May 11.

• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at Grimm Chiropractic Thursday, May 9. Dr. Robert Grimm cut the ribbon.

• Center Grove Cemetery is now 150 years old. The cemetery, located near Westboro, Missouri, was established in 1846 when an infant was buried in a beautiful place located on a farm owned by Mr. and Mrs. Grimes Dryden. The oldest stone standing is the stone of Augustus M. Scott, who died February 4, 1848.

• Marli Summa and Travis Chambers were named Tarkio High School Outstanding Senior Athletes at the athletic banquet May 10.
