May 17, 1946

• Commencement week activities for the 16 high school seniors began with baccalaureate services at the Methodist Church. One of the largest audiences attending a like service here for several years completely filled the large auditorium of the church.

• Freezing temperatures Friday and Saturday night nipped tender garden plants and damaged some corn that was up, but the damage, except that to tomato, beans, and sweet potatoes, appears to be light.

• Seventh and eighth grade pupils of the Fairfax schools and their teachers, Mrs. Carter and Mr. Campbell, enjoyed a picnic at Big Lake Tuesday.

May 20, 1971

• The Fairfax High School Bulldogs finished a successful track season by scoring 11 points at the Class S State Outdoor Meet held at Columbia. The Bulldogs’ 880 yard relay team of O.C. Swackhamer, Mike Irvine, John Ball, and Richard Hawkins distinguished themselves as state champions in this event as they won it at both the state indoor meet and the state outdoor meet. They were undefeated for the season against all Class S schools. Hawkins also placed 2nd in the 100 yard dash and 5th in the 220 yard dash.

• Celebrating 50 continuous years as an alumni organization, the Fairfax Alumni Association honored the class of 1921 at the Friday night banquet. Claude Templeton, one of the founding members, gave a talk with reference to the first banquet and history of the organization. With 399 in attendance, Beulah Hunter was the only member of the class of 1905, the oldest class represented. The class of 1896 was the first graduating class and there is still one living member, Mrs. Nell W. Hunter.

• Mr. and Mrs. Chester Boley will observe their 50th wedding anniversary May 21. They have lived in Fairfax 30 years.

• It was a long trip from St. Joseph in Fairfax back in 1921 and S.J. Peterson recalls that it took him and his family two days to make the journey when they moved here 50 years ago. Rain made roads near impassable and it was necessary to push the Model T up every hill. Although he came to Fairfax as a veterinarian, his interest in heavy construction led him to give up the veterinary work after 10 years and devote all his time to construction.

May 16, 1996

• Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Schooler of Fairfax will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 18. Jean Walker and Wayne Schooler were married at the Lutheran Church in Rock Port by Rev. D.L. McConnell May 18, 1946. They have lived on the same farm east of Fairfax since their marriage.

• The 101st commencement will be held at the Fairfax school on May 19. Graduates include Clay Johnson, Kevin Lewis, Jason Thayer, Adam Oswald, Josh Oswald, Jeremy Slemp, Carrie Bradfield, Molly Harding, Amanda Burke, Kenna Demott, Chris Bartlett, Kelly O’Riley, Jeff Wallace, Shannon Long, Lisa Pinnell, and Brad Conard.

• Alumni initiates made their first walk around town Saturday morning. This year’s theme is centered around politicians.
