June 7, 1946

• The Rock Port Langdon and Northern Railway has suspended operations and has filed an application for abandonment of service. The road has not been operating trains since early in the winter. According to Pete Hedgpeth, the railway never returned a profit and the original investors failed to get back their investment. The R.P.L. & N. started operations about 60 years ago.

• After having been without a city marshal for some months, Rock Port now has a regular peace officer in the person of Glen Graham, who put on a star last Friday. Graham is a returned serviceman, who spent a number of months overseas.

• Designed to stop the heavy erosion which has been threatening to cut into the Rock Port-Langdon highway just south of the local depot, state highway department workers are constructing a huge flume which is to carry off the heavy flow of water from the Hunter lands on the west side of the roadway.

June 10, 1971

• Delegates to the State 4-H Week in Columbia from Atchison County included Gale Seymour, Mary Beth Hull, Leslie Martin, Martin MacDonald (Extension Youth Agent), Tim Bolton, Donnie Broermann, and Terry Ann Thiesfeld (chaperone). The theme of the program, which ran June 2-5, was “We Care.”

• An expected statewide strike will have considerable affect on a number of highway projects in Atchison County and bring things to a screeching halt next Tuesday, June 15, if negotiations are not satisfactory. The strike will stop work on Hwy. 59 in Tarkio, Hwy. 136 construction of two bridges and relocation of several miles of road between Rock Port and Tarkio, Hwy. 136 from Rock Port to U.S. 275, completion of a double box culvert on Main Street in Rock Port, and stoppage of finish work on Interstate 29 from Rock Port north to the Iowa line.

• The first rehearsal of the Rock Port Municipal Band will be held June 15. Ken Meisinger, music director, invites anyone in the Rock Port area to attend and become a member. Plans for the band include two open air concerts this summer.

June 6, 1996

• Once again, the Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in “Operation Cashcrop,” a coordinated effort between the Patrol and many other law enforcement agencies across the state to destroy marijuana plants.

• Citizens Bank & Trust held its 8th annual fashion show and luncheon on May 30. “Garden Party” was the theme and 160+ ladies attended.

• The Rock Port Garden Club selected Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boatman, 519 E. Ridge Court, as June’s Yard of the Month.
