The Tarkio R-I Board of Education meeting was called to order by President Garrett Wood at 7:00 p.m. June 16, 2021, at Tarkio High School. Board members attending were Jamie Barnett, Sam Hannah, Chris Yates, Josh Wright, Heather Olson and Ann Schlueter. Others in attendance were Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, board secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Special Education Director Kari Taylor, Ashlee Driskell, Summer Reeves, Dallas Prather and Carrie Driskell.
The consent agenda was approved, as well as the district obligations.
Rachel Meyer submitted a report on membership at the TAC.
Ashlee Driskell and Summer Reeves reported that the Tarkio Park Board is looking into making improvements to the city baseball field.
Elementary Principal Taylor reported that May attendance was 95%. They have 21 students enrolled in summer school with an average of 15 children attending daily. The elementary teachers attended curriculum camp May 24-25.
High School Principal Livengood reported that boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have both hosted shoot-outs. She reported that incoming Tarkio High School Principal Mr. Kemerling has been attending weights and helping with shoot-outs and is getting acquainted with the students and coaches.
Superintendent Coleman gave a financial report for 2020-21. The district will end the fiscal year significantly in the black. Mrs. Coleman reported that the dance team was approved by MSHSAA. She also reported that the school will bid photography for sports and activity photographs for the 2021-22 school year.
The administration is continuing to gather cost and information on the baseball field renovations.
Jamie Barnett moved and Josh Wright seconded to transfer $162,326 from Fund 1 to Fund 4 for future renovations and energy efficient projects. The motion carried 7-0.
All board members approved the 2021-22 budget as presented.
The K-12 science curriculum has been tabled until the July board meeting
Ann Schlueter moved and Josh Wright seconded to approve the payment of the city water bill each month on the 13th to avoid a late fee. The motion passed 7-0.
Mrs. Coleman shared the required re-entry plan for the 2021-22 school year.
The board discussed the possibility of renting office space at the TAC.
The board discussed the possibility of forming a cooperative with Rock Port for softball. Although not interested immediately, the board would like to discuss it in the future.
Chris Yates moved and Heather Olson seconded to approve the resignation of Carrie Driskell with the assessed penalty for late resignation. The motion passed 7-0.
Ann Schlueter moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve Tracy Westfall for middle school science teacher. The motion carried 7-0.
The board unanimously voted to approve the summer school pay as presented.
Josh Wright moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve an additional 10 days to Ellie Graves’ contract for the 2021-22 school year.
