Joan (Burke) Bowness, age 82, Mound City, Missouri, formerly of Fairfax, Missouri, died Monday, June 28, 2021, at Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax.

Joan was born February 19, 1939, in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of the late David and Hollis (Davenport) Burke.

She was a graduate of Fairfax High School Class of 1957. Joan was a baptized and confirmed member of the United Methodist Church.

Joan was united in marriage to Phillip E. Bowness, November 19, 1957, in Fairfax.

A homemaker, Joan enjoyed her life on the farm and raising her children. She loved gardening and the out of doors where she entertained her wrens, finches, and squirrels. She liked going to Minnesota on fishing trips, going to Phil’s army reunions, doing puzzles and family gatherings where she was able to see all the grandchildren that she loved so.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Janice; and one brother, Ronald Burke.

Survivors include: her husband, Phil, of the home; sons, James (Angie) Bowness and Kevin Bowness, Mound City; daughter, Christina (Kevin) Webster, Mound City; one brother, John (Sandy) Burke, Fairfax; sister-in-law, Jan Burke, Rock Port, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jackson and Kathryn Bowness, Brian (Amanda), Laura, and Daniel (Tiffany) Bowness, Joshua (Heidi) Webster, and Jamie (Michael) Gard; 10 great-grandchildren, Kiowa and Hawkin Bowness, Avery Bowness, MacKensi Meyer, Crosby, Corby, and Kiptyn Webster, and Mila, Maddox, and Marek Gard; and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Mound City United Methodist Church. Burial was in the New Liberty Cemetery, Mound City. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax/Craig.
