Douglas Alfred McNulty, son of Alfred Wendell and Martha Ornell (Soine) McNulty, was born April 26, 1948, in Seattle, Washington. Doug attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1966 where his diversified skills, talent, and charismatic personality started to take center stage serving as Student Body President, starring lead male role in his junior play, and being a valuable team player in football.
In 1969, Doug entered the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Vietnam Era, stationed in Eglin Air Force Base in the panhandle of Florida, test firing missiles off the Florida coast. He received his honorable discharge in 1974.
In 1969, Doug was united in marriage to (Mary) Arlene Horn (divorced in 1989), and they became parents of four children: KaryAnne; twins, Shelli and Kelli; and son, Daric. They made their home in Maryville, Missouri, where Doug was employed by Uniroyal Tire while attending Northwest Missouri State University. In 1978, Doug received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from NWMSU.
After receiving his degree, Doug was employed by Vigortone Agriculture as a regional salesman for 17 years. He also served as City Councilman of Maryville for a time. Doug then worked in management for Home Depot in California and later in Kansas City, Missouri. For the last 10 years of his career, Doug was employed by Freight Quote, in Kansas City, until retiring in 2018.
Doug was known for his wit, outgoing personality, love of life, friends, and warmth. He never knew a stranger. He was an avid photographer, constantly taking pictures of his life experiences and was known for always having a camera. Doug also enjoyed traveling with his sister Marcy, which included a 2019 trip to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, where their father, Wendell, served during WWII. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his friends, going to his grandchildren’s events, bantering on Facebook, enjoying refreshments and cocktails on his porch with the surrounding views, maintaining his weekly restaurant schedule, and going to the movies. Doug peacefully passed away, with his family at his side, Thursday, July 8, 2021, in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 73.
