An Omaha, Nebraska, woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on I-29 Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jovannah D. Ross, 38, was northbound at mile marker 107, three miles south of Rock Port, Missouri, at 7:38 p.m.

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata she was driving began to slide, crossed the grass median and entered the southbound lanes. The passenger side of her vehicle struck the front of a 2018 Toyota Sienna driven by Emily A. Ptacnik, 34, of Omaha. The Sonata came to rest on its wheels facing east off the west side of I-29 and the Sienna came to rest on its wheels facing south on the inside shoulder of southbound I-29.

According to the crash report, Ross was not wearing a seat belt. Passengers in Ptacnik’s vehicle included three juveniles, ages 2, 4, and 6. Ptacnik and her passengers were all wearing a safety device. They sustained minor injuries and were transported by private vehicle to Mosaic Life Care of St. Joseph.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed by Double M of Rock Port.

Tpr. M.A. Harris and Sgt. H.A. Sears were the investigating officers. They were assisted by Tpr T. B. Heintz, Tpr L. T. McDaniel, Atchison County Sheriff’s Department, Rock Port Police Department, and Rock Port Fire Department.
