Did you know that the ice cream cone as we know it today was purportedly invented in Missouri? The story goes that during the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, an ice cream vendor ran out of containers to serve his treat. A near-by vendor was also serving food – waffles. The ice cream vendor hit upon the idea of wrapping the waffle into a cylinder and filling it with the ice cream. The idea took off, and the ice cream cone became a hit. Today the ice cream cone is the official dessert of Missouri. 

Tuesday, August 10, 2021, marks the 200th anniversary of Missouri statehood. Missourians statewide will celebrate the bicentennial with an ice cream social on that date. More than half of the state’s counties have registered to be part of the official Missouri 2021 Ice Cream Social. Holt County’s Missouri State Bicentennial Committee invites you to an ice cream social at the historic Forest City Drug Store on that date, from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
