The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry Board met Tuesday, July 13, 2021, with 14 members present. Churches represented were: Fairfax – Christian, Methodist, and Presbyterian; Tarkio – Baptist, First Christian, and Presbyterian; and Westboro – Methodist and St. John’s Lutheran. Sam O’Riley represented Community Services. Pastor Mark Moon from the Fairfax and Tarkio Presbyterian Churches and Father Duc Nyguyen from the Catholic Church were also in attendance.

President Anne Barnett presided over the meeting. In May, 35 families representing 72 individuals were served. In June, 39 families representing 78 individuals were assisted. 

Items that are currently needed include jelly in plastic containers (no glass), Sunny D Juice, liquid dish soap, flour and sugar. Churches, organizations and individuals continue to donate much needed items. In May, 105.1 pounds of items were donated. In June, 552.4 pounds were donated. The pantry has also received generous donations of pork and hamburger. Monetary donations are always appreciated as the money allows the shelves to be stocked with the items that are low.  

St. John’s Lutheran Church will open the food pantry in July. The Tarkio Presbyterian Church will open the food pantry in August. The food pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. the third and fourth weeks of each month. On the third Tuesday, the pantry is also open in the evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, September 14, at 9:30 a.m. The food pantry is located at 315 Main Street in Tarkio.
