The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced that 1,275 teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-2021 season.

The Peru State Bobcat volleyball team had a cumulative grade point average of 3.431. This was the 14th time in program history that a Bobcat team has been recognized. This was the ninth year in a row for Peru State.

All eligible team members who played during the season were included when determining the team’s grade point average. Those team members included Kelcie Gaines, Watson, Missouri.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

Peru State head coach Laurie Felderman was pleased with the acknowledgement of her team’s academic success. She stated, “This is an annual team goal. We discussed as a team at the beginning of the pre-season that while success on the court is important that we needed to also be successful in the classroom. The girls obviously took that to heart and earned this excellent honor.”

The Bobcats will report for the fall season on Monday, August 9. They will open the regular season in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Fall Fling on Friday, August 20, when they face Avila (Missouri) in Hutchinson, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m.

Peru State’s first home competition will be on Labor Day, September 6, when they host Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) foe Culver-Stockton (Missouri) at 11:00 a.m.
