August 9, 1946

• Moran Wright suffered a painful injury Sunday morning when a horse he was riding fell with him, throwing Moran off and breaking his left collar bone. Moran and E.C. Whiford went horseback riding south and east of Fairfax and were returning to town over the cemetery road when the horse Moran was riding became frightened and started for town. When he turned the corner at the Seth Smith place, the horse fell and Moran was thrown over the horse’s head.

• After losing two games in a row, Fairfax’s baseball team redeemed itself Sunday in a game on the homegrounds when it defeated a team from Hamburg, Iowa, by a lopsided score of 34-4.

• In a field of four entries, Jim Steele of Fairfax won the Piper Club plane race at the air show in Tarkio Friday. The show was held in connection with the annual Tarkiesta. Charles Waugh placed second in the Taylorcraft race and Johnny Jones of Tarkio won the spot landing contest, putting the plane down within 36 feet of the marker.

• Approximately 85 persons attended the American Legion and Auxiliary picnic, which was held on the lawn at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Bowman Monday evening.

August 12, 1971

• What Fifi does, she doesn’t do halfway. Experts are convinced that poodles never give birth to six puppies, but Fifi did, and they are all in good health and four weeks old. The AKC registered litter and Fifi belong to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lingerfelt.

• Completed and ready for installation on four poles at a height of 16 feet is the press box which will go up at the Fairfax R-3 athletic field. The cubicle will offer a place for those charting and photographing football contests.

• Benefits of therapy are very much in evidence at Fairfax hospital. Physical Therapist Robert B. King has recently joined the staff at the hospital and is setting up the physical therapy department, a new service at the hospital. King holds an AA degree from Dutchess Community College and a BS degree from the University of Colorado with a major in physical therapy.

• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “The school bridge overpass is really beginning to look sharp. The local crew of Jon Graves finished the new floor and now the painters have started. Jon was assisted by Jarod Graves and Josh Bebout.

• Last Tuesday, members of the Vance road crew paved the parking spaces in front of the business places. Merchants are paying to have this done. Now the city employees will line the area to complete the project.

• Last Monday, Mildred Flanagan called the newspaper and told about a Fairy Ring she saw at the English Grove Cemetery. A Fairy Ring is a circle of mushrooms often seen on grassy ground. The Fairy Ring at the cemetery had 28 mushrooms growing in a circle which was about 12 to 15 feet across.
