The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met August 19, 2021. The tax rate hearing was called to order by board president Garrett Wood at 7:00 p.m. Board members who were in attendance were: Jamie Barnett, Ann Schlueter, Heather Olson, Josh Wright, Sam Hannah and Chris Yates. Others in attendance were board secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio R-I Superintendent Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Ele-men-tary Principal/Special Education Director Kari Taylor and Tar-kio High School Principal Nick Kemerling.
Carrie Livengood presented the tax rate. Jamie Barnett moved and Josh Wright seconded to set the total tax rate at $3.8041 with $.75 put in fund 4 for Capital Projects and $3.0541 run in Fund 1 Incidental. The motion carried 7-0. The tax rate hearing closed at 7:04 p.m.
President Garrett Wood called the regular meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. The consent agenda and district obligations were approved.
TAC Report – The TAC report was shared with the board.
Elementary Principal Taylor gave a report on the beginning of the school year. Teachers have started back and are excited to be here. Right now enrollment is: preschool – 21, kindergarten – 27, first grade – 28, second grade – 20, third grade – 35, fourth grade – 23, and fifth grade – 23. There are three students returning from home school and seven students who are new to the district.
As the Special Education Director, Mrs. Taylor reported that special education had two students transfer out in the high school and five transfer in. The elementary has had one student transfer out and four transfer in.
High School Principal Kem-erling gave a report on the new year for high school. Teachers had their first day back. Fall sports have began and numbers are looking great. He reported that the summer volleyball league went great, as well as the shoot-outs for basketball. Nine students have transferred out and 13 new students have enrolled.
Superintendent Li-vengood gave a financial report for July ending balances that included a bank reconciliation, general ledger for the month of July and a report indicating there is a definite upward trend in balances for the end of July. OPAA! will be grab-and-go for breakfast and all students will eat lunch in the cafeteria this year. Masks will have to be worn on all school transportation again this year.
The new hot water heater has been installed and will be fully functioning by the end of this week.
The board approved payment for summer activities. They also approved Jayne Martin as a half time teacher for the 2021-22 school year.
The board approved the resignation of Rachel Meyer as the TAC Director.
The substitute list was approved as presented.
The board members voted to approve the tuition rate at $4,500.00 a year and $250.00 for each additional student in the family.
Chris Yates moved and Josh Wright seconded to approve the early graduation request from Alexis Brown. The motion passed 7-0.
The board approved the bus routes as presented.
The board approved the Local Compliance Plan as presented.
Discussion was held on the EA Co-op Agreement.
Mrs. Livengood met with Midwest Data Center to obtain a bid for adding cameras at the football field, TAC gym, and parking lots.
A meeting has been set for the facilities committee on September 28, 2021.
Discussion was held on purchasing a live stream package through Hudl for all sporting events held at the football field or at the TAC.
