September 6, 1946

• C.J. Lackey and Glen Lineberry have sold the Fairfax Locker Plant and grocery stock to Max Stalcup of Leavenworth, Kansas, who took possession of the business Tuesday morning. The Fairfax Locker Plant started business here about two years ago. It is one of the most modern and complete plants in this section of the state and has done a good business.

• The board of education met Monday afternoon and hired Kermit Bailey of near Oregon, Missouri, to be instructor of the veterans’ agriculture program. Mr. Bailey is a veteran of the late World War, having served in the European theater.

• Jim Steele of Fairfax, Ryland Coe and Bob Gobul of Tarkio, flew to Cleveland Thursday of last week and attended the opening day of the national air races. Jim returned Saturday evening after dropping Ryland and Bob off at Akron, Ohio, where they picked up two Piper Cubs for Coe & Son Aviation in Tarkio.

September 9, 1971

• Patty Sue Simmons left this week for England where she will attend university at Lancaster for the coming year. Enroute she will visit friends in Chicago and Boston. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Simmons, Jr. of Tarkio.

• A passing vehicle forced a truck pulling a house trailer to the shoulder and the pickup and trailer overturned on U.S. 59 just north of Fairfax. The driver, Miss Iva Jean Paxton, of Elmo received minor injuries. The trailer had extensive damage and the pickup had moderate damage.

September 5, 1996

• Over the Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “Last week Cate Kenny invited me to come to the sixth grade class to talk about the newspaper. Their plans are to write a news story for the paper. They wrote down ideas and the works are in the making. The high school mass media class has 10 enrolled this year and they too hope to have news in the paper.”

• Bishop Ann B. Sherer, Bishop of the Missouri area, is to be at the Fairfax United Methodist Church this next Sunday evening, September 8. This is the first visit by a bishop in many years. She will be taking part in a fellowship meal followed by conversation and entertainment.

• The annual crops tour at the Graves Memorial Field drew a record crowd this year on Tuesday, August 27. According to Bob Chapple, extension county program director, 330 people attended the event.
