The East Atchison Wolves Varsity Football Team advanced to 4-0 with a victory over DeKalb Friday night, September 17, 2021. The Wolves won the contest 54-6. This was the first game of the season where the Wolves allowed their opponents to score. However, the Wolves took such a lead that the game was called at halftime.

The Tigers put their only points on the board to start the game off. That was all it took to set the Wolves in motion to take over the scoring from then on out. After the touchdown, the Wolves received the kick and Kaylin Merriweather ran it back for a 50 yard kick-off return, putting the Wolves’ first points on the board. The two-point conversion was good making it 8-6. Jarrett Spinnato had the next play for points, running 71 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good. Kaylin Merriweather added another 14 points with a 34 yard run and successful two point conversion and a 36 yard run, making the score 30-6 to end the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Carter Holecek kept the score on the increase for the Wolves with a 29 yard punt return for six. The two-point conversion was good. Kaylin Merriweather ran 31 yards to add another six (the two-point conversion was also good). With the Wolves leading 46-6, Holecek intercepted a pass and ran it back down the field 35 yards for another touchdown. With the successful two-point conversion, the score was 54-6 at the end of the second quarter and the game was called.

The Wolves will face off with the Rock Port Blue Jays this Friday night, September 24, in Rock Port at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to attend and cheer on our local athletes!

Due to Stewartsville/Osborn having numerous injuries causing a lack of players that might cancel the October 8 game, East Atchison’s homecoming has been changed from October 8 to October 1 against Mound City. That game will take place in Tarkio and begin at 7:00 p.m. with the homecoming coronation ceremonies to follow.
