October 4, 1946

• Cal Yocum has purchased from R.W. Holt of Kansas City the residence property Mr. and Mrs. Yocum occupy, west of the Burlington tracks.

• Fairfax may become the mecca of rodeo enthusiasts of this part of the country if plans of the local post of the American Legion and Glade and George Bilby are carried through. The Legion recently signed a contract with Harry A. Sly for a 10-year lease on his 35-acre tract of land north of Fairfax. The Legion also signed a contract with Glade and George Bilby for the presentation of their rodeo to be held on that ground each year, with a seating capacity of 5,000 for the first year.

• Eva Louis Hyde, missionary to Brazil, will speak at the high school assembly October 10. Miss Hyde went to Brazil in 1912 from the Missouri Conference. She taught for five years in Juiz de Fora and Petrapolic and has been at Coelgio Bennett for 25 years, which she started and is the first and only girls’ college in Brazil.

October 7, 1971

• A parade and pep rally Thursday afternoon will kick off the 1971 Fairfax R-3 Homecoming activities. A snake dance will begin at the park and end at the football field. A bonfire will take place afterward and the football players and queen contestants will be introduced. The homecoming game with Craig will start after the coronation of the queen.

• A community auction and barbecue will be sponsored by the Fairfax Community Club Monday, October 18, on South Broadway. Merchants will donate new merchandise to be auctioned and the public is also invited to contribute articles of any kind to the project. Funds raised will be used in the Christmas lighting fund.

October 3, 1996

• Fairfax Elementary has added five new computers equipped with hard drives, Word Perfect, and Windows ’95, and speakers. The printers are Panasonic and can print in color.

• Having a young coach who was active in college sports can really help a team. Take for example the Lady Bulldogs’ 7-2 record. Sarah Gaines, first year assistant coach and teacher at Fairfax, has been a real help.

• Twelve girls dressed as Disney characters and five boys dressed as women invaded FHS Monday, September 23. Freshmen hoping to become FHA and FFA members dressed up so they could receive signatures by older members. If a hopeful member wanted a signature, they had to do whatever they were told.

• The Fairfax Marching Band placed second in their class of 17 bands in the 1A class at the Carrollton, Iowa, parade Saturday. Concordia placed first, a school twice the size of Fairfax, although Fairfax outscored them in two categories.
