The East Atchison fall homecoming crowd was treated to a big win Friday night, October 1, 2021, when the Wolves defeated the Mound City Panthers 58-6, putting their record at six wins and no losses.
EA faced its toughest opponent to date. Mound City put up a good fight and the Wolves’ repeated penalties caused them to lose yards and even one touchdown that was called back.
Mound City started the game with an on-side kick that they recovered, giving them the first possession. Mound City’s game plan was to limit the amount of time that EA would have the ball. Each snap was taken down to the last five seconds of the play clock. As the game progressed, EA was able to find the end zone with quarter back Josh Smith scoring three times (two touchdowns and one two-point conversion) and Kaylin Merriweather adding another touchdown before halftime, giving the Wolves a 20-0 lead over the Panthers.
Merriweather would go on to score two more times in the third quarter with two successful two-point conversions by Carter Holecek and Smith. The Panthers also put their first and only points on the board to end the third quarter 36-6.
In the fourth quarter, Linkin Murry, Smith, and Merriweather would all have touchdowns with Braden Graves and Murry having a successful two-point conversion each. The Wolves defeated Mound City 58-6.
East Atchison will take on Stewartsville/Osborn Friday night in Tarkio with the game beginning at 7:00 p.m.
