Several years ago, stores were not open on Sundays and most people did not work. There are several reasons, but I believe there are two main reasons why this is not so now. One is money and the other one is many, many people have not included God in their lives.

God addresses this in HIS 10 commandments. The fourth commandment is: Remember the Sabbath Day. Thou shalt not do any work. But God should be first in our lives. But this debate about work has gone on and will go on until Jesus returns. Where do we draw the line? In Luke 13: 10-17, Jesus was accused of doing work on the Sabbath by healing a woman. The ruler of the synagogue said to the people that Jesus broke the fourth commandment. Jesus asked, “Don’t you feed your animals on the Sabbath?” So what is the definition of work. Again where do you draw the line on work?

There are important people who have to work on the Sabbath, Sunday, the first day of the week. God made all creation in six days and rested on the seventh day. Mark 2: 27, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” Don’t become legalistic like the Pharisees. They made laws that were intended so the people at that time would not break the commandment.

God felt it was important to rest on the seventh day, which now is the first day of the week. If God felt it was important to rest, so should we. God knows your heart. REST, REST, REST on your Sabbath.
