October 18, 1946

• Clyde Rinehart has purchased three business buildings on the west end of Main Street from Reed Jackson of Maryville. The buildings are those occupied by the Rinehart Cafe, Moser Garage, Standard Service Station, and the corner building, which until recently was occupied by a produce and feed store.

• Fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bilby about eight o’clock Sunday evening. All of the contents of the home were also destroyed. Some insurance was carried but only about enough to cover one-third of the loss.

• Many farmers have started shucking and cribbing their corn and reports yield heavy and quality goods. Ralph and Vern Seymour have picked 800 acres of their DeKalb hybrid seed, and have 400 acres more that will soon be picked.

• With the lifting of price controls, much livestock has been moving to market and prices jumped far above the old ceiling levels Tuesday. The Fairfax hog yards bought about 300 hogs Tuesday and Wednesday, more than the total number bought for the past several weeks.

October 21, 1971

• A community club auction and barbecue Monday evening netted over $700 to help finance new Christmas lighting for Fairfax.

• Fairfax Community Betterment which has placed first three times and third twice started the climb back up the ladder Tuesday evening in Jefferson City when it was named second place winner in the 500-1000 population category at the annual awards banquet. Fairfax delegates received a check in the amount of $600.

• Mr. and Mrs. H. Burte Gomel will observe their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, October 31, at the Fairfax United Methodist Church. Mr. Gomel and the former Blanche Keiffer were married at Mound City by the Rev. Lynn E. Jones.

October 17, 1996

• Community Hospital Auxiliary members and guests enjoyed a delightful brunch at their September meeting at the Fairfax Christian Church. A fresh fruit compote, assorted nut breads and cinnamon rolls were served to 28 members and guests. Shirley Suddarth, retired psychiatric nurse from North Kansas City Hospital, gave an inspiring talk, “Joy of Living.” She is the sister of Mrs. Junior Hawkins of Fairfax.

• Mrs. Sharron Brown, who operates the food concession at the Rock Port Golf Club, will be honored with a benefit golf tournament at the Rock Port Golf Course. Mrs. Brown has served as worthy matron of the Fairfax Chapter No. 373 of Eastern Star this past year. She also caters many dinners.

• The Fairfax FFA Chapter held its annual barnwarming October 4 in the school gym. A hayride and short cookout was held before the dance. The students learned two dances and three square dances. Maranda Beck was crowned Chapter Sweetheart. Shane Hawkins was named Favorite Fellow.
