• Westboro news – A suprise basket dinner was given in honor of the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Henning Sunday, October 20.
• To be dedicated at the Methodist Church Sunday night, October 27, is a memorial to seven young men, members of the church, who gave their lives during and since the close of WWII. William and Virgil Brunk, Junior Campbell, Sidney Crider, Jack Hinshaw, Norman Nell, and Ernest Obert are the servicemen to whom the memorial, a 16 mm Bell-Howell sound motion picture projector, will be dedicated.
• A 30-minute musical program presented by the Tarkio High School music department will be heard over radio station KFNF, Shenandoah, October 28. KFNF gives a $100 savings bond to the school receiving the most cards and letters in response to this program.
October 28, 1971
• Huge packages of pre-fabricated, arched beams were lifted by dragline from a truck Tuesday afternoon at the site of the new structure to house the First Baptist Church. The beams will form the roof of the building and will be exposed in the interior. Don Whited operated the dragline for the operation.
• The Tarkio Pelleting Corp. has announced the appointment of Corky Smith as field service salesman for the local company. Corky, who has been in the feed business the past 10 years, will be the salesman for the area south of Highway 136. For any of your feed problems, call Corky collect.
• On October 10, a banquet and installation ceremony was held for the new Tarkio College Chapter of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. The Tarkio College chapter is the 296th chapter to be installed.
• A brief and moving ceremony in observance of Veterans Day was conducted at the Tarkio Elementary School Monday morning with a flag raising by members of the American Legion Post 199. Honor guard was Richard Halliday and Byron Brown and flag bearer was Robert Wallace.

• After 13 years of honorary membership, Arlene Wheeler, Honorary Aunt to the Nu Sigma Chapter in Tarkio, was recognized with a sorority membership pin at the annual pledge ritual on Monday, October 21. Arlene was asked to be Nu Sigma’s Honorary Aunt in the fall of 1983 and has been a loyal member since.
• This year’s Lord’s Acre Day celebration held in Westboro, Missouri, on Saturday, October 12, raised $19,256 for the United Methodist Church in Westboro.
• Tarkio and area residents woke up Tuesday morning, October 22, to the sight of white trees and grass. By press time Tuesday, snowfall in the area ranged from four to six inches with continuing snowfall.
• Bridge #124, the Woolsey and Espey Bridge, was dedicated during a ceremony Thursday, October 17. The bridge is located in the Tarkio Special Road District on a gravel road about half a mile west of Clifford Smith’s residence on Route O. The bridge was constructed for a total cost of $66,390.07.
