November 22, 1946

• Half a dozen cities and towns in central and north Missouri are hoping for the arrest of a gang of arsonists and robbers who seemingly go into a town, set fire to homes, churches, or businesses, and while the citizens are busy fighting the fires, they loot and rob other homes and businesses. Towns affected include Higbee, Gillam, Laclede, Glasgow, Wakenda, and Higginsville. While nothing of the nature has been reported from this part of the state, it is well to be on the lookout for suspicious characters.

• A large crowd attended the Daleview 4-H Club program Wednesday evening of last week. After the program, pie and coffee were sold and bingo was played. The club’s membership for the past year totaled 16 and will be increased to include 30 boys and girls for the coming year.

• Hunter’s Grocery Store is now a completely self-service store. Equipment and fixtures of the latest type were installed there Friday. Improvements soon to be made include redecorating of the interior and installation of a new oil-burning furnace.

• Organization of an eight-team American Legion basketball league has been perfected and the first game for the Fairfax Legionnaires in the circuit will be at Mound City November 27. Teams in the league are Fairfax, Mound City, Rock Port, Tarkio, Forest City, Craig, Maitland, and Skidmore.

November 25, 1971

• Bobby Graves, three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Graves, was seriously injured Saturday afternoon, when he fell 20 feet into a pen with a sow and pigs. The sow attacked and inflicted numerous lacerations to his face and right eye, causing the need to remove the eye.

• Kiwanians were treated to a turkey dinner at the Christian Church Tuesday at noon. A film on the Kansas City Chiefs professional football team comprised the program.

• The beauty of Fairfax City Park was enhanced Tuesday evening by the magic of the first snow of the season. Mild, almost summer-like temperatures prevailed most of last week with colder weather moving in over the weekend and snow starting late Monday night.

November 21, 1996

• The auxiliary members are hard at work preparing mince meat for their upcoming Community HospitalAuxiliary bake sale, bazaar and plant sale. Their proceeds will go toward their chosen projects of purchasing three electric chafing dishes for the dietary department and another IVAC Multiline Pump for the emergency room. Total costs for these projects is $6,500.

• Reach Out America, sponsored by the Fairfax Optimist Club, will bring its mobile unit to Fairfax November 25. This life education center will focus on bringing the classroom of the 21st century to the students of kindergarten through fifth grade.

• The Fairfax Bulldogs are one game away from the 8-man team football state championship. Saturday they won the semi-final game and will play North Andrew for the state title on the Tarkio field.
