After losing to Platte Valley in the regular season, the East Atchison Wolves’ High School Football Team took the win when it mattered, defeating PV 40-14 in the District semi-final game Friday, November 12, 2021, in Barnard, Missouri. At game time the wind was blowing 10 to 15 mph and the temperature was 32 degrees, by far the coldest conditions that the Wolves have played in this year.

In the first quarter, both teams moved the ball, but were unable to find the end zone. To start the second quarter, Platte Valley would strike first putting 8 points on the board. East Atchison would move the kick-off to mid-field before Kaylin Merriweather would take it 50 yards for a touchdown. The point after was not good and the score going into halftime was 8-6 Platte Valley.

Following some ad-just-ments, the Wolves would strike quick in the second half with a pass from quarterback Josh Smith to Jarrett Spinnato. The two-point conversion was good, giving the Wolves their first lead of the night, 14-8. Midway through the third quarter, Smith would find the endzone to extend the lead to 20-8. Platte Valley wasn’t ready to lay down as they would answer with a touchdown with two minutes left in the third quarter to bring the score to 20-14. The Wolves would waste no time answering back with 26 seconds left in the third quarter. Merriweather would punch it in, bringing the score to 26-14. Merriweather would find the end zone two more times and with a two-point conversion by Braden Graves. The final score was 40-14 East Atchison.

The win advances the Wolves to the District 4 Championship, which will be played against Worth County this Friday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. in Grant City, Missouri.
