December 13, 1946

• Don McNeal, former Fairfax citizen and son of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. McNeal, is a member of the Admiral Byrd Antarctic expedition, which left the West Coast some two weeks ago. Don is a member of the Navy personnel assigned to take the trip.

• Harlan Donelson of the Donelson Turkey Farm sold 2,500 turkeys last week to Swift & Co. This makes about 5,800 turkeys Mr. Donelson has sold so far this year. He sold 3,300 for the Thanksgiving market. He still has about 700 left and expects to sell about 400 for the late Christmas market.

• Fairfax is to have a new furniture store and the Schooler business building on the north side of Main Street is being put in shape for the new business, which will be owned and operated by Marvin Schooler. Fairfax has been without a furniture store since early in the war when Hackett & Sons discontinued business because of the shortage of merchandise in that line.

December 16, 1971

• Gale Seymour competed in the state finals of the Make It Yourself With Wool contest December 11 in Joplin. Debra Miles, Miss America 1968, was the commentator. Gale received fourth place.

• Officers for the coming year were elected by local masons at their regular meeting Tuesday evening. Alva Stoner was named worshipful master.

• Youngsters and oldsters alike will be heading for Fairfax early Saturday afternoon to greet Santa as he makes his annual visit. The faithful firemen will herald his arrival and will escort him to the Bow Hunter club room where he will spend the afternoon with his young friends handing out treats.

December 12, 1996

• Apple Core and Night Before Christmas in Nebraska City, Nebraska, hosted a nationwide event for Department 56 Heritage Villages Series during November. Jeanie Jobes of Tarkio was the grand prize winner of the daily drawings. She was presented an “Up Up and Away” animated Santa, his sleigh, and reindeer for her own collection.

• The Xi Lambda Beta announced the winners of the December residential Christmas decorations: Northwest section, Kent Ray; Northeast section, Richard Heits; Southwest section, Ted Simmons; Southeast section, Jim Fisher; and grand prize, Gene Carder and Sue Swinehart.

• A new sign went up recently by Community Betterment to direct people to the Fire House Community Room in Fairfax. Jim McConnell and K.R. Pennel placed the first sign at the corner of Highway 59 and Route J.

• The national open karate championship Diamond Nationals was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, November 16. Arika Henry of Fairfax won the national championship in both forms and sparring and placed sixth in weapons forms.
