
Barbara Colleen Deatz, the daughter of Harold Burdette and Katherine Gertrude (Bain) Smith, was born March 5, 1931, in Westboro, Missouri. Barbara attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1949.
On June 30, 1950, Barbara was united in marriage to Duane Grant Deatz in the First Christian Church, Rock Port. They became the parents of five children, Michael, Ron, Dan, Larry, and Becky. Duane passed away August 9, 2017.
Barbara was a piano teacher and gave lessons in her home. She taught hundreds of students over the years and held recitals in the First Christian Church, Rock Port. Barbara was employed by Fabric Unique, Craig, Missouri. She also worked as a receptionist at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, and as an accountant for Rock Port Oil.
Barbara was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church, Fairfax, and enjoyed singing in the Sweet Adelines Choir. She was very active in her church and community. Barbara passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at Tiffany Heights, Mound City, Missouri, at the age of 90.
Besides her parents and husband, Duane Deatz, Barbara was preceded in death by infant twin brothers, and grandsons, Christopher Alan and Eric Curtis Deatz. Survivors include brother, William J. (Martha) Smith, Maryville, Missouri; children, Michael Deatz, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ron (Kay) Deatz, Rock Port, Dan (Robin) Deatz, LaVista, Nebraska, Larry Deatz, Rock Port, and Becky (Doug) Livengood, Mound City; grandchildren, Angela (Jeff) Mace, Rock Port, Brett (Molly) Deatz, Rock Port, Stacy (Fred) Peterson, Gretna, Nebraska, Tony (Bethany) Deatz, Elkhorn, Nebraska, Grant Deatz, LaVista, Nathan Livengood, Burlington Junction, Missouri, Kyle (Melissa) Livengood, and Gena Livengood, both of Mound City; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Friday, February 4, 2022, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, conducted by Pastor Andy Campbell. Interment was at English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri.
