The Southeast Nebraska Community Band (SNCB) is beginning its 28th season of making music not only for their own enjoyment, but also for audiences in the area. SNCB is a congenial, diverse group of music performers who range in age from 15 to 88. They started in 1994 in Pawnee City, Nebraska, with 13 members. Through the years, over 200 musicians have been part of the band. The organization has performed over 400 concerts. Members represent the Nebraska counties of Cass, Johnson, Lancaster, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson and Sarpy. Southwest Iowa, Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas are also represented.

Dennis Ehmke is the current director and encourages you to play in the band. “Playing a musical instrument is a fun, challenging and enhances your mental skills.” He can be contacted at 402-806-2075 or on Facebook under Southeast Nebraska Community Band. The band rehearses Monday nights, 7:30-9:00 p.m., at Auburn or JCC High Schools.

High school students are also invited to participate in rehearsals and performances to gain community service points for their high school and/or scholarship requirements. This has become very popular in recent years.

Spring rehearsals begin March 28 at Auburn High School and will continue through May.

Performances for the 2022 season at this time include: June 4, Sterling Picnic, 6:00 p.m.; June 19, Johnson BBQ, 6:00 p.m.; August 13, Hickman Concert, 6:30 p.m.; August 20, Fairfax Fair, 7:00 p.m.; September 10, Popcorn Day, Hamburg, Iowa, 2:30 p.m.; November 6, Veterans Salute at the Lofte Theatre, Manley, Nebraska, 2:00 p.m.
