The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry board met Tuesday, March 8, 2022, with 11  members present. Churches represented were: Tarkio – First Baptist, St. Paul’s Catholic, First Christian and Presbyterian; Fairfax – Baptist and Presbyterian; and Westboro – United Methodist and St. John’s Lutheran. Sam O’Riley with Community Services was also present.

President Anne Barnett presided over the meeting. In January, 31 families representing 56 individuals were served. In February, 30 families representing 48 individuals were assisted. Treasurer Anita Sutter presented the financial report. She also reported on the annual health inspection. The pantry is in compliance with no issues reported.

The pantry is especially in need of grape and strawberry jelly in plastic containers and crackers. Those items have been difficult for many stores to stock. They are also low on the following items: boxed potatoes (au gratin, scalloped), pork & beans, chili beans, Blue Bonnet margarine (1 lb. sticks), and beef or chicken pot pies. The food pantry is located at 315 Main Street in Tarkio.

The pantry will be open the third and fourth Tuesdays and Thursdays of March and April from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. It will also be open on the third Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. In March, the Westboro United Methodist Church will open the pantry. The Fairfax Baptist and Christian Churches will open the pantry in April.

The next board meeting is Tuesday, May 10, at 9:30 a.m. The food pantry is located at 315 Main Street in Tarkio.
