Pitch Club met Tuesday, March 8, at Martha’s Bed and Breakfast, with Susan Braams hosting for the last time before moving out of the area. Those present were Merylan Lowrey, Martha Shaffer, Pam Cooper, Deb Johnson, Janell McQuinn, and Susan. Vicki Smith and Sharon Smith were subs this week. Norma Bradfield was unable to attend, but she was with us in our thoughts and prayers.

With the passing of our dear friend Georgia Gilley, Norma’s absence, Martha’s recent fall, and this being Susan’s last day of club, Pam Cooper read a beautiful poem about friends never to be forgotten. A toast of carbonated white grape juice was made for our dear card playing buddies and a few moments of silence followed as we remembered these special ladies! Georgia’s hospitality and voice of wisdom as well as Susan’s laughter and organization will be greatly missed. But we look forward to seeing Norma with cards in hand very soon, and pray for Martha’s healing being fast.

We were only able to get in five rounds of play this week, but still had good games and conversations. High scorer was Sharon, second high went to Martha, and Susan took low score for the last time. I don’t think she even made it off the low table! (Laughing with you, Susan!)

As we enjoyed our refreshments of coffee, tea and cookies, the group discussion fell into the state of our world, our nation, and life in general in these times. While the topic may seem gloomy to some, we were able to get some laughs in as we once again revisited locations around our county virtually reliving the past lifetimes. Pitch playing is always fun, whether you win or lose. It’s the fact we are able to be together and enjoy the company of great friends!
