March 28, 1947

• Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marti moved this week into their new apartment above the Marti Plumbing shop on Main Street. Their former home is now occupied by their daughter, Mrs. H.O. Matthews, Mr. Matthews, and son, Ricky.

• Lyle A. Rolofson was elected commander of the Atchison County Memorial Post No. 4608, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at a meeting held last Friday night, March 21, at the Walnut Inn. He succeeds Dr. Ellis J. Hough, whose term had expired.

• A new-looking interior for the Tumble Inn cafe has been nearly completed by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dragoo. The walls are newly painted, there is red leather upholstered booths, new feature formica table tops, new chair stools at the counter with red leather and the counter top has been laid with maroon linoleum.

• St. Paul’s Catholic Church has purchased from Mrs. Esther K. McDewell the Elm Street residence adjacent to the church, the home which is now occupied by Prof. and Mrs. Silas E. Summers. It will be used as the parsonage. The house which had been used as a parsonage by the church was purchased by Charles and James Wilson. It is the property directly east of the high school building.

March 30, 1972

• The Tarkio Board of Education approved low bids of Meryle McCoy and Schoonover Electric for installing accoustical tile and fluorescent lighting in the high school halls and art and drafting rooms. Bids were accepted from White Bus Company for a 66- and 72-passenger Carpenter school bus, trading in three busses.

• A subject was apprehended west of Westboro by Marshal J.C. Henson, Jr. Tuesday afternoon and taken to the Atchison County Jail. The man, whose face and hands were covered with a black substance/makeup, told the officers he was from New Hampshire. He had first been reported in the area Sunday when he was observed going through the garbage containers behind the Opp Hotel in Rock Port.

• Girl Scout Troop No. 260 composed of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Westboro girls had a family dinner at St. John’s March 17. Approximately 115 people were served the meal, which was prepared and served by the girls. A program of skits and singing and badge ceremonies took place afer the dinner. The girls had participated in an ecology program which has to date collected 2,000 pounds of magazines, 1,500 pounds of newspaper, 1,400 glass bottles and jars, and 7,000 pounds of tin cans.

March 27, 1997

• Both fourth grade classes at Tarkio Elementary, as well as students from Tarkio Academy, hatched chicks. The students set up incubators in their classrooms and turned the pre-incubated eggs. Once the chicks are strong enough, they will go to new homes on area farms.

• Gavin Doughty was presented the President of Rotary Special Award for service above self at the Tarkio Rotary meeting Tuesday, March 18. The award was presented by Dave Napoli, District 6030 Governor. This is the first year for the award and there were 150 given out.

• The golden egg finders at the Tarkio Easter Egg Hunt held Sunday, March 23, were Brooke Killough, Trey Graves, Karly Umbarger, Madison Fischer, and Stephanie Burge. They all received special prizes for their golden finds.
