The re-organization meeting of the Tarkio R-I Board of Education was called to order by board president Garrett Wood at 7:00 p.m. April 13, 2022, at Tarkio High School. Board members attending were: Jamie Barnett, Josh Wright, Sam Hannah, Chris Yates, Heather Olson and incoming member Brooke Vette. Others in attendance included: board secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio High School Superintendent Carrie Livengood, Tarkio High School Principal Nick Kemerling, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Tarkio R-I Special Education Director Kari Taylor, and Tarkio R-I teachers and staff members Markie Sundermann, Deyton Thomson, Nikki Parshall, Erica Taylor, Jennifer Peregrine, Shannon Bruns, Blu Dow, and Dallas Prather.
All board members voted to confirm the election results. Board secretary Lanette Hogue administered the Oath of Office to Brooke Vette and Jamie Barnett. Chris Yates nominated Garrett Wood for board president and Jamie Barnett seconded. Chris Yates moved that motions cease and Jamie Barnett seconded. The motion carried 7-0. Josh Wright nominated Chris Yates for vice-president and Jamie Barnett seconded. Josh Wright moved that motions cease and Jamie Barnett seconded. The motion carried 7-0. Chris Yates nominated Lanette Hogue for board secretary and Heather Olson seconded. Chris Yates moved that motions cease and Heather Olson seconded. The motion carried 6-0-1. Chris Yates nominated Marla Swaby for board treasurer and Josh Wright seconded. Chris Yates moved that motions cease and Josh Wright seconded. The motion carried 7-0.
The re-organization meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m. President Garrett Wood called the regular meeting to order at 7:06 p.m.

Tarkio Elementary Principal Kari Taylor reported that the elementary attendance was 93% for March. Kids’ Korner has 17 children registered for the 2022-2023 school year. Kindergarten, first and second grade held their spring program on April 13, 2022. The School Counseling Advisory Board held a meeting on April 6, 2022.
High School Principal Nick Kemerling reported that there are 169 students enrolled 6-12. The scholar bowl team was named district champion and will host sectionals on April 20, 2022. FFA had four teams qualify for State FFA. Two groups competed at the FBLA State Conference this week and Katie Hall, Sophia Martin and Tessa Rolf earned second place, qualifying for nationals. D.A.R.E. graduation was held for the sixth grade and Luke Gebhards won first and Annalee Livengood won second in the essay contest. On April 7, 2022, Community Hospital-Fairfax held an assembly on mental health awareness and suicide prevention for all 7th-12th graders in Atchison County.
Superintendent Carrie Li-vengood gave a financial report for 2021-22. Mrs. Livengood shared a Tarkio Tech newsletter and an OPAA! newsletter. Graduation is set for May 15, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Livengood has started a Google form for maintenance needs for the summer.
MSIP/CSIP – Mrs. Livengood has added documents to the drive and she is collecting sample program evaluations and schedules.
The board members unan-imously voted to approve the Tarkio Tech contract for the 2022-23 school year for the purpose of offering classes to high school students for post-secondary credit.
The board voted to approve the 2022 Tarkio High School graduates as presented.
The board voted to approve the contract with NLS Education for visual impairment needs.
The board voted to approve the updated TAC waiver as presented.
The board voted to approve the quote from Midwest Data Center for $2,143.53 to replace the speakers in the pod and cafeteria.
The board voted to approve the bid for $3,400.67 to add a camera to the multipurpose room at the TAC.
Mrs. Livengood shared a technology program evaluation.
The board members voted to approve Mr. Lambertsen and the FFA members to attend State FFA overnight.
The board members voted to hire the following: Josh Taylor, high school special education for the 2022-23 school year; Whitney Harrington for the 2022-23 school year; Cassie Runde for the 2022-23 school year; and Mark Moon as a substitute.
Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve the resignation of Jayme Wood. The motion passed 6-0-1.
The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, record and vote at 8:45 p.m.
The board members voted to continue to employ the following: Mary Beth Bredensteiner, Suzanne Brought, Marla Swaby, Nikki Parshall, Mistie Rightsell, Susan Jones, Sandi Riley, Melissa White, Jodie Dorrel, Connie Gebhards, Leslie Hogue, Marie Joesting, Bill Joesting, Lanette Hogue, Shannon Bruns, Meghan Hughes, Jim Bob Barker, Cara Lee Barker, and Ponya King.
The board voted to employ the following as coaches: Aaron Behrens, high school head football coach and summer weights; Kevin Dodson, head high school boys’ basketball coach and summer weights; Josh Taylor, head junior high football coach, assistant high school boys’ basketball coach and head junior high boys’ basketball coach; Stephanie Parsons, high school head volleyball coach; Tiffany McGinness, junior high assistant volleyball coach; Melody Barnett, high school girls’ golf coach; Erica Taylor, high school cheer coach; Mark Staten, high school and junior high scholar bowl coach; Matt Darrah, high school head wrestling coach and assistant junior high wrestling coach; Gerry Collingham, head junior high wrestling coach and assistant high school wrestling coach; Michelle Henry, head junior high girls’ basketball coach; Joe Unternahrer, assistant high school boys’ basketball coach, athletic director and head girls’ high school track coach; Casey Martin, assistant high school girls’ basketball coach and head high school baseball coach; Tammy Hall, head junior high girls’ track coach; Nate Jeter, assistant high school baseball coach and assistant high school football coach; and Blu Dow, dance team coach.
Board members voted unanimously to approve a 3% raise for the administration. The meeting adjourned at 8:57 p.m.
