Many Atchison County parents struggle to feed their children during the summer months. Citizens of the community are asked to donate a one-time food box for families signed up with Atchison County Community Services.
Food or monetary donations can be taken to Community Services in Tarkio, 322 Main Street, by June 10 or any church in Atchison County by June 14. Each church will have a particular item they are to focus on.
The Tarkio First Christian Church, Fairfax Presbyterian Church, Rock Port United Methodist Church, and Tarkio Church of God will collect canned goods of beef ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, and Spaghettios with franks (or similar items). Tarkio First Baptist Church, Rock Port Christian Church, and Fairfax Methodist Church will collect ready-to-make macaroni and cheese such as Kraft and Hormel microwavable versions. Tarkio United Methodist Church, Westboro United Methodist Church, Watson United Methodist Church, and Watson Baptist Church will collect Ramen Noodles such as beef or chicken flavors. Tarkio Presbyterian Church, Fairfax Christian Church, and Rock Port First Lutheran Church will collect jars of peanut butter and jelly. Tarkio St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Rock Port Grace Community Church, and Westboro St. John’s Lutheran Church will collect boxes or bags of cereal and granola or cereal bars.
Families will be contacted when they can pick them up. If you know a family in need, please direct them to call Community Services at 660-736-4646 by June 10 to check to see if they meet income guidelines and to be put on the list if applicable.
