June 20, 1947

• J. Dan Martin, who with his wife are spending a few months in California, sends The Forum a copy of the Western Livestock Journal, published in Los Angeles. The editor of that paper just happens to be Nelson R. Crow, a former editor of The Fairfax Forum.

• Mr. and Mrs. Jess Bowman leave Saturday and H. F. Browning leaves Monday for Cedar Point, near Sandusky, Ohio, where they will attend the Mid West Farm Bureau convention which will be in session there next week. Cedar Point is on Lake Erie. Mr. Browning will return via Urbana, Illinois, where he will attend a meeting of phosphate dealers.

• Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Showalter of near Fairfax will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, June 22, with a family dinner and open house at their home.

• Two freight cars were derailed just south of the depot in Corning, Missouri, Wednesday of last week when a journal broke on a car on Train No. 75.

June 22, 1972

• Charles E. Nelson of Maryville was high bidder for a 120-acre farm two miles south and two miles east of Dotham Friday at the court house in Rock Port. The land, property of Bertha Duvall, was sold by her guardian, Marion L. Carter. The high bid was $331 per acre.

• Fairfax cheerleaders are among 620 junior and senior high students attending the annual NWMSC cheerleading clinic this week. Those from Fairfax attending are Terry Graves, Kay Hawkins, Jony Lawrence, Rita Hawkins, Susan Norton, and Debbie O’Riley.

• Miss Rita Hawkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hawkins, was crowned Miss Fairfax 1972. Benne Rogers was named Little Mr. Fairfax and Jennifer Vernon was chosen as Little Miss Fairfax.   

June 19, 1997

• The sixth grade fishing trip was held Saturday at the Bill and Susan Slaughter farm pond. Many worms were drowned and hot dogs consumed. Unfortunately, the fish were not cooperating. Conservation Agent Richard Sperber also gave a talk about ecology and fishing management, as well as how to identify stinging nettle. The event was sponsored by the Optimist Club.

• The 113th Vacation Bible School was held last week at the Baptist Church in Fairfax with 71 students enrolled. The theme was “Wild and Wonderful Good New Stampede.” An offering for the Children’s Home amounted to $192.93.

• The Fairfax Kiwanis Club kicked off a new project this week. They are collecting old batteries and from the sale of the batteries, proceeds will go to the Kiwanis International project to eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders by the year 2000.

• Aimee Hawkins and David Riley wish to announce their recent engagement and upcoming marriage. Aimee is the daughter of Debbie Petry and Bill Hawkins and is a 1995 graduate of Fairfax High School. David is the son of Steve and Carol Riley of Tarkio and is a 1992 graduate of Tarkio High School.
