Two attorneys with local ties were recently recognized in “Graves Garrett News,” a publication of Graves Garrett, LLC.

The firm recognized several notable alumni, including Ben Hurst, a Tarkio native.

Ben joined Graves Garrett as an associate in 2016 and developed a specialized practice in speech, election, and privacy litigation. He was a member of the 2018 class of Missouri Lawyers Weekly Up & Coming Lawyers award winners.

Ben joined the United States Attorney’s office for the Western District of Missouri in 2018 and currently serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the appellate section, where he litigates criminal appeals in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has since received the David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award from The Missouri Bar Foundation in recognition of outstanding achievement in appellate practice by a young lawyer member of The Missouri Bar.

Prior to entering private practice, Ben spent three years as a judge advocate for the U.S. Army at Fort Knox in Kentucky. He also served on Missouri’s Clean Water Commission during his time at Graves Garrett.

Graves Garrett also announced that partner Todd Graves received three honors.

Graves was a repeat honoree in Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s 2021 Power List, which recognizes “the most powerful attorneys” in Missouri for specific sectors of law. He was recognized for his work in white collar criminal defense and investigations, specifically for defending clients from adverse government actions, including criminal prosecution and regulatory enforcements. An independent panel selects the honorees, who were profiled in recent editions of Missouri Lawyers Weekly.

Three of the firm’s partners, including Graves, have again been recognized for their legal work in The Best Lawyers in America 2022, a U.S. News & World Report – sponsored peer review guide honoring top legal professionals for outstanding work. Graves made the list for the 12th straight year. Recognition by Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer review. The organization’s methodology is “designed to capture, as accurately as possible, the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical area and legal practice area.”

A person receives recognition from Best Lawyers for his or her success in the legal industry within specific practice areas. Graves was honored for Commercial Litigation, Criminal Defense: White-Collar, and Litigation – Regulatory Enforcement (SEC, Telecom, Energy).

Finally, Graves was recognized as a “Super Lawyer”  in the 2021 edition of Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers. Graves has been selected for the honor for the past 17 consecutive years. No more than 5% of the lawyers in Missouri and Kansas are selected as Super Lawyers. Super Lawyers recognizes the top lawyers in every state annually through a multiphase selection process. The mission of Super Lawyers is to bring visibility to those attorneys who exhibit excellence in their legal practice.
